WELCOME to the Rauceby War Weekend
|
|
After a great success at the first Rauceby war weekend event held on August bank holiday 2009, we have decided to hold it again after such popular demand. This weekend is all about taking the area of Rauceby back in time to the 1940’s where Lincolnshire is renowned as being the bomber county with all it’s scattered airfields, and Rauceby played a big part having had the RAF hospital for all the badly burned airman. These events are very popular and enjoyed by all sorts of people from veterans who actually took part in the wars to the modern day era.
This is not held to glorify war but to be a remembrance to the people who have either given their life or survived the horrors of war, so that we can be here today and remember what they did and for us to give our thanks.
We have chosen two great charities, Help for Heroes who support our troops in their hour of need and for a charity which seems to affect a great many people. The other is the Lincs/Notts air ambulance which again need support to survive. They both do a tremendous job and with your help we can help them achieve this.
We are having a good response from sponsors to which we are indebted because without their support we would find it hard to raise the money to hold this event. .
I would like to thank the new committee members for joining and helping to organise this event, as I could not do it without them.
The Committee and I hope that you will come along to this event and experience some of the sights and sounds of the 40’s. and have an entertaining bank holiday. You will see from the 2010 program that we have got plenty going on, with the big highlight being the 1940’s dance with the Ockbrook band on the Saturday night.
